Comprehensive Eye Exams
Visual acuity tests
These are tests that are designed to measure your vision sharpness. The tests are performed using a projected eye chart that measures the distance of visual acuity as well as a small acuity chart that you can hold with your hands and measures near vision.
Eye muscle movement test
Cover test
The cover test is the most common eye test. During the test, the doctor will require you to focus on a particular object across the room and then cover one of your eyes alternately. The tests will be repeated with a nearer object as well. During the tests, the doctor will determine the state of your eyes, depending on the movement of your eyes.
Refraction testing
The doctor can use a computerized refractor to determine your exact lens prescription. This test is only applicable if you need corrective lenses.
Eye exams terms
Once you have started your appointment with the doctor, the following are some vision terms you might hear.
Refractive error– this means that without vision correction, you see things a bit blurry.
Cataracts– This is when there is a clouding in the eye, which leads to decreased vision. It might require surgery to get rid of cataracts.
Dilation– dilation occurs when the doctor opens your pupils using some drops to enable enhanced examination.
Myopia– It represents trouble seeing far away objects.
Having an eye exam is not only affordable in the long run but makes sure your vision is not compromised. It helps keep your eyes healthy, and in case something is wrong, an optometrist will take early measures to avoid loss of sight. Schedule an appointment with an optometrist for a clear sight into the future.
